Tornados. Ghosts. Little green monsters under the bed. There was no end to the things that kept my daughter Emma up at night. And that meant long nights for me and my wife.
One day, as I was browsing the Marine Corps Exchange, a teddy bear wearing a Marine sweatshirt caught my eye.
When I returned home, I presented Emma with the bear and a story that would ease her nighttime anxiety and launch a business. “This is Marine bear,” I told her, “part of an elite fighting force that has protected our nation for more than 200 years. And now, he’s ready to protect you.” “Every night,” I told her, “we’ll station Marine bear outside your door, where he'll watch over you as you sleep."
“What if he falls asleep?” she asked. “He’s a Marine," I told her. “He would never
fail his mission!"
That night, Emma slept like, well, a hibernating bear. And the idea for ZZZ Bears was born.
